Here at Grand River Coonhounds, we strive to produce dogs that have correct conformation, a dog that fits the standards to a ' T ', is a dog that will excel on a Bench, in the Ring, and most importantly, where the coonhound got started and belongs, in the Woods. We are NOT your local backyard breeder, we travel all of the country to compete with these fine hounds. We look for competition ( hunt, show, agility, search and rescue, etc ) homes first and foremost, but will place certain dogs and pups in pet homes if needed. We are STRONG believers in keeping and producing a TOTAL dog not just a show dog. We want sound mind, body, temperament as well as ability. A balanced dog for any task you would like to try with them.
We don't breed for profit, we breed with the hopes of producing pups with a strong hunt drive and the ability to perform in the woods but still have the structure and form to win in the ring. Before a breeding takes place at our kennel, both Sire and Dam have at least one Show or Hunt title, most are multi - champions or have points towards their next titles, and are of sound body and health. We are VERY competitive in UKC Nitehunts, UKC Field Trials, UKC Water Races, Treeing Contest, Big Coon Contests as well UKC & AKC Bench Showing and UKC AKC & International Conformation Showing. We campaign Redbones and Blueticks mainly but you will see us sometimes with an off color coonhound we are pushing. We breed very little and when we do its for ourselves, we are VERY picky as to who our dogs go to, for the simple fact we put TONS of money into these hounds and want them taken care of.
