This does seem like an interesting feature. Unfortunately, it still doesn't address the online multiplayer question since this title could easily just introduce a four split-screen multiplayer (as opposed to the original 2) like many other games have done.

It does sound like 4 split-screen mp, especially since it mentions family and friends playing together.
