I made this mod so that gameplay would be more like what I thought vanilla R:TW should have been. I decided to share this mod so that other people of like mind could enjoy it also. This mod was never designed to rival any other mods, nor was it done for personal glory, etc.

For some reason since the 1.2 patch Hard and Very Hard settings are actually easier for the player than harder. For the hardest game in SPQR play Medium for Campaign and custom Battles. Strategy map difficulty is ok.This Mod is not intended with use with other mods and most likely will crash if other mods are used in conjunction with it.
Also, Historical Battles cannot be played at this time with the mod but campaign and custom battles can.This game is best played with Huge settings, but large will do for computers that cannot handle such large battles. SPQR: Total War is not set for complete realism but is intended to enhance gameplay with a touch of realism added. My main goal is War. Lol Total War.
J My intent is NOT to force a Player to play a certain way for that is where most mods and/or games go wrong, if you wish to use blitz tactics or exploits or just plain cheat, you can, whatever makes the game fun for you. Please remember though that this mod was made to suit the way I like to play and I play more by restricting myself,for example:You can build first cohorts in SPQR, and no one can stop you from building an army of them, but I only build 1 per Legion, so I have NO intent on changing the mod to stop people from exploiting it.
Self control is a good virtue. JI have also included a Spreadsheet which you can use to keep track of your kills and losses, please use as you see fit.Note: Below installation instructions are only for manual Installation.
The Executable should install everything correctly in your RTW directory.Manual installation its best to have a clean install of Rome Total War, Then apply the new v1.2 patch that CA just released. Next, you need to play the prolog, don’t actually play it or the game will crash, all you need to do is go in as if you are going to play then exit. This will allow you to now play campaigns etc. Next, just copy the DATA folder into your Rome Total War folder and click “YES” to overwrite the files.
Its that easy! J Please delete the Events.dat file in the Datasounds directory to hear music.Changes in the mod:1.Cherry Vanilla Pack, Trivium mod added to this modification. It fixes a Number of RTW Bugs dealing with VnV etc.2.Centurions w/ shields are added to all cohorts3.Eagle bearer or Aquilifer added to all First Cohorts4.New Cohort Signifers added and Vexillum.5.Cavalry Officer added to all Roman Cavalry units6.You can recruit first Cohorts, remember historically there was 1 per Legion.
Try not to build an army of them.7.Building times have been adjusted to a more realistic build time.8.All nations are playable in the campaign except Spain, Thrace, Numidia, SPQR, and Slaves.9.All units have 0 wait time and allows you and the AI to build as much as you can afford and the population will allow. This is what Makes SPQR unique.
J10.Upkeep costs of units are lowered to allow more armies in the field at one time.11.Siege engines have had crews lowered in numbers.12.Spartans have unbreakable morale and will NEVER retreat off the field.13.Head Hurlers are now an Infantry unit and no longer a missile unit, they still throw heads before attack. Wow, I downloaded your mod, played it, and, well, being arrogant, played the cavalry-heavy Pontus despite your cavalry warning (and the WEAKEST faction in the game!) for 6 years, gave up, and said. This is cool! The first true defeat of mine (without the message) on M/M!This mod is very cool.Though I have a bit problem with so many factions being so large and so few rebels to practice with (and when they come you better got a large army to fight. ) I understand that as a way to simply 'heat things up' early and also give the AI a chance in late game - two folded success with one minor fault as a novice king like me can't stand the heatI rushed with my meager forces to expand my meager kingdom in Asia Minor, fought hard battles against the mighty rebels surrounding and outnumbering me, then rest, gather my little forces, watch the events of the world. Prepare for inevitable struggle with the great Seleucids, and then the Armenians attacked.I fought them back, even tried to invade their land, albeit failed, and then the Seleucids joined in with full stacks besieging cities everywhere.I gave up as a proud-good-caring king of Pontus would do, hehe.Very stable, very challenging, and I like the new hoplites.
Keep up the good works! LT1956's SPQR mod is very good. It greatly improves the strategic campaign and the tactical battles, and has better looking units. As far as I know, all the issues in RTW v1.2 that are fixable by modding have been fixed in SPQR. I've made one addition, and that is to play the campaign with Pode's 'no walls' idea. I've left the stone walls on the six major cities.
No walls doesn't upset the AI at all, and if anything makes the campaign even more difficult. Now I can save the game on almost every turn without the siege/savegame bug affecting it.
This change doesn't make the game incompatible with SPQR online battles. The battle gameplay is one in which the tactic of flanking is very important, and there is plenty of time to carry out flanking maneuvers. The RPS is also much more apparent with spears and phalanx working vs cav. I these are the primary reasons that some online players have embraced SPQR mod as a possible standard mod for online play.
